The Michigan DNR says a 46-year-old man was injured Thursday night in a suspected black bear attack in Clare County.

The man was hunting for porcupine, and says the black bear approached him from behind in his hunting blind. The bear knocked him to the ground and began to attack him. The man was able to retrieve his hunting knife and was able to stab the animal, which scared him off.

WPBN-TV reports that the sought medical attention for his injuries at a local hospital and has since been released.
