It's kind of amazing that this worked, because this might be the dumbest way to propose I've ever heard of.

30-year-old Alexey Bykov, a wealthy Russian businessman, wanted to propose to his girlfriend.  Apparently, he didn't think "wealthy" was a good enough guarantee that she'd say yes.

So Alexey decided to stage his own fake death to show his girlfriend Irina how sad she'd be without him, and then propose.

He told her to meet him on a street at a certain time.  He then hired actors, a stuntman, a make-up artist, a screenwriter, and a director to stage a massive accident to make it look like he'd died in a car accident.

When Irina got there she saw ambulances, wrecked cars, smoke, and debris everywhere.  She also saw Alexey lying on the street, covered in blood.  A fake paramedic told her he was dead, and she immediately broke down, devastated.

That was when Alexey jumped up and proposed.  She said yes, but did say she thought about, quote, "killing him for real" for pulling that stunt.
