Ray Tomlinson has yet to be charged with a crime, but the 62-year-old Detroit man has gotten plenty of national attention since his decision to continue his trek from Arizona to Michigan after his girlfriend died along the way.

The 31-year old woman had checked herself out of a mental health facility in Arizona, and fell asleep shortly after making a rest stop. Tomlinson tells the Detroit Free Press that he discovered she had passed away as they drove through either Texas or Arizona.

Tomlinson's 93-year-old mother was accompanying the couple, and he tells the paper the two of them made the decision to continue driving to Michigan "to get the woman’s body to the Macomb County morgue."

The man also worried that authorities “would have impounded my vehicle, they would have probably incarcerated me to do an investigation and I had a 93-year-old woman in my car that I needed to get home.”

Tomlinson says he has not broken any laws. After discovering that his passenger had passed away, he did an Internet search on his phone, and found information indicating that he had 48 hours to take the woman's body to a morgue or medical examiner.
