This guy says he's nothing more than a human speed limit sign.

And yes...he was arrested.

A Texas man finally had his day in court last week. Ron Martin was arrested last fall by his local police department for holding a sign in the median of a busy highway that read "Police Ahead." He says that he was only trying to help law enforcement's efforts to get drivers to stop speeding. Martin says his sign is very effective, and his right to free speech allows him to hold it any where he wants.

Police officers don't see it that way. He was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of waving a homemade sign.

Martin told the court that by displaying the sign, he was only trying to accomplish the same thing as the officers conducting the speed trap...to get drivers to slow down. The only difference he said, was that he wasn't wearing a uniform.

The outcome of the case will be decided on Feruary 21. More in the video below.

As you might expect, cops take a dim view of drivers warning other drivers of approaching speed traps. The most common way is to flash your lights at oncoming cars to warn them to slow down. Laws regarding that vary by state.

Do you warn fellow drivers of speed traps?
