There are a lot of factors that school leaders have to consider before canceling class. We know that the roads, blowing snow and as of late the wind chill all play into it. For me until today I never really knew who and what made the decision to close schools because of the wind chill.

Let's learn together. That decision is based on a scale from the CDC. The scale considers both temp and wind chill. All based on conditions a child would have to be in. Changing buses is something else that districts have to worry about in the brutal temps.

Paved roads versus a dirt road can have a different impact on the buses. School districts also take recommendations from the Genesee County Road Commission. Usually if it's to cold for salt to melt..the buses don't run.
