Local Radio Legend Dies

Les Root (Luster), a Flint radio legend passed away this morning. Les covered all the big news stories in flint for over 50 years.

I worked with Les for a few years at the start of my radio career. At the time I was working from 12:00am to 6:00am, and there wasn't a day that Les didn't walk in at 2:00am, newspaper in hand, ready to listen to the police scanner and retrieve the news. He covered everything from the rise and fall of GM, to local school board meetings. He was even inducted into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame in 2006 He was always professional, and someone I truly looked up to.
