Lansing Woman Tells Police “I Was Trying to Kill My Daughter”
A Lansing woman is in custody in Ohio after she called 911 from a Sandusky waterpark, and said she had tried to kill her 7-month-old daughter.
Ruth Smith says she had been planning to kill the girl because of a custody battle with the baby's father. She drove from her home in Lansing to the Kalahari Resort, where she attempted to smother the girl with a pillow. After a few minutes, the girl began to breathe, and Smith called for help. The Sandusky Register posted audio (below) from the woman's 911 call.
The paper reports that the girl is expected to be fine. Smith is being held in the Erie County jail.
