After three deaths have been linked to ice cream products contaminated with listeriosis, two major retailers have pulled Blue Bell ice cream products from their shelves.

Kroger and Sam's Club made the decision to pull the products after the company announced it was temporarily closing its Oklahoma plant. The CDC says products with the letters “O,” “P,” “Q,” “R,” “S,” and “T” at the end of the numeric date code on the bottom of the packages originate from the Oklahoma facility.

Listeriosis is a life-threatening infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium (germ) Listeria monocytogenes. People at high risk for listeriosis include pregnant women, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems.
