Kevin Clash, the puppeteer who plays Elmo on Sesame Street as resigned from Sesame Workshop. Last week, Clash was accused of having a sexual relationship with an underage boy, which he denied. One day later the accuser recanted his allegations and dropped the suit.

Today, another accuser has come forward with more allegations against Clash according to lawyer Cecil Singleton.

Sesame Workshop says the whole controversy surrounding Kevin Clash’s personal life is “a distraction that none of us want” and that is what led the puppeteer and voice actor to leave the show. The furry red monster made his first appearance on Sesame Street in 1972 simply as 'baby monster.'

It wasn't until Kevin Clash gave 'baby monster' a personality and a voice that Elmo was born on November 18, 1985. Now 27 years and two days later, what will happen to this beloved Muppet?

Elmo has become so popular that on most episodes of Sesame Street, the last 15 minutes featured Clash's creation in a segment called "Elmo's World" that is directed towards toddlers.
