A 33-year-old man from Kansas has been arrested after posing as a teenager in order to meet a 13-year-old girl from Saginaw.

The man drove 20 hours to Michigan and met the teen at a St. Charles motel where he sexually assaulted her. Motel owners Kathy and Marcus Kelly cooperated with the girl's mother after her search led her to the motel and Kelley tells WJRT that he helped to prevent the man from leaving the property.

"It was like instinct. I just reached in and I just grabbed [the steering wheel] and the more he steered one way, the more I steered the other way. So he had no control what the car was going to do."

The man's car ended up in a snowbank and was arrested shortly thereafter. He's currently lodged in the Saginaw County jail.

Saginaw County Sheriff Bill Federspiel stresses the importance of parents being aware of the threat of online predators and urges parents to monitor their children's social media accounts.
