Muscular Dystrophy affects over 2,000 Michigan residents, over 300 in Genesee County alone. One woman is fighting the good fight to raise awareness, money for research, and hope for those who suffer from MD.

Jackie Mason, the Goodwill Ambassador for the MDA of Genesee County, has orchestrated several fundraisers for the MDA over the past few months. Between shamrocks and other events, she has raised just under $15,000 in 10 weeks for the the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Genesee County. Obviously the MDA has a special place in her heart, because it has touched her family personally.

Flint three-year-old Eli Mason, Jackie's son, was clinically diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His leg muscles are to weak to coordinate walking properly causing a waddling gait. He cant jump or run, and walking long distances is a huge struggle. His muscles are weak from his stomach down, and the disease is progressing rapidly. Sadly, the average lifespan for children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, or DMD, is between 15 and 20.

All of the money raised through Jackie's fundraiser goes directly to the MDA of Genesee County. But several people including myself, the staff at The Point in Grand Blanc, and the Fabulous Ladies Small Business Club, feel that after all the work she has done helping others, it's time for us to return the favor.

There is a disability bike called an Amtryke that allows children like Eli to ride a tricycle by peddling with their hands, since their feet don't have the strength to move. Costing almost $750 including shipping, we are hosting a fundraiser for Eli to cover the cost.

Join us at The Point Bar & Grill on Saginaw Street in Grand Blanc this Friday starting at 7pm. We will have a silent auction for Eli, as well as 50/50 raffle drawings and some great vendors. The Fabulous Ladies will be there from 7pm until 10pm, but I will be on hand hosting karaoke and dance like I do every Friday, and will be accepting donations throughout the night.

Hope you can join us for a great cause, for a great kid! If you can’t make it but would still like to donate, or for more information on Eli’s condition or the MDA of Genesee County, contact Jackie via email: jaclyn.ann.mason@gmail.com. We all thank you!
UPDATE:  Part Two of the fundraiser will happen on Friday, May 23rd from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at The Point Bar & Grill on Saginaw Street in Grand Blanc.
