At an emotional press conference Monday morning, Jim Leyland confirmed rumors that he will step down as manager of the Detroit Tigers. Leyland said he plans to stay with the organization in another capacity, and plans to retire as a Tiger.

"There's a lot more to this job than just writing up the lineup and pulling the pitcher," Leyland said, and noted that he can feel himself "running out of fuel."

Reports indicate that Jim Leyland will step down from his position as manger of the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers are expected to make the official announcement at a press conference scheduled for 11:30 this morning.

Sources tell Detroit TV station WJBK that the 68-year-old skipper informed the team that it is time for someone younger to take over the position.
