New tablet program rolls out in Sanilac County for inmates, but not everyone is happy about it.

According to the Sanilac County Sheriff's Office, a new program called, "Inmate Tablet Program", rolled out this past week in partnership with Securus Technologies, Inc. The basics of the program are that inmates, who display good behavior and have about $30 in their commissary account, will have access to tablets that will be able to access an internal and monitored Internet in order to access library resources, help in job searching, and later down the road, tools to work towards their G.E.D.

Now, when this was announced, you can imagine that the Internet exploded with all kinds of concerns on the Sanilac County Sheriff's Office Facebook page:

There were some people who agree with the program:

While opinions differ, it looks like in the next month, St. Clair County plans to follow suit with their own tablet program along with a few other counties in the next few months. What do you think? Is this program helpful for inmates that want to turn their lives around, or is it a luxury?
