"I forgive you." Those are the words Nadine Collier uttered when she addressed Dylann Roof Friday. Ethel Lance, Collier's mother, was one of the nine people gunned down by Roof at a historic African American church in Charleston, S.C. on Wednesday.

I don't know how the hell she did it.

I know we're supposed to forgive. Intellectually, I know this. But honestly, I do not know how the hell she did it. I couldn't. I just couldn't.

“You took something very precious from me," Collier continued. "I will never talk to her again. I will never, ever hold her again. But I forgive you. And have mercy on your soul.”
