A rummage sale this weekend will help in promoting adult literacy throughout Genesee County.

According to the Genesee County Literacy Coalition, a survey shows that 35 percent of Flint residents and 21 percent of Genesee County residents read at or below a level 1. That means they have trouble with simple everyday reading, writing and math activities like reading signs and counting change. Proceeds from the rummage sale will go to the purchase of tutor books, materials and training expenses.

The rummage sale will take place from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22 at 2145 East Williamson in Burton.
