‘Hope Not Handcuffs’ Coming to Genesee and Lapeer Counties
This is a great program for our county, and you can volunteer to be a rehab angel, too.
We mentioned this when it started in Macomb County back in January, and we’re so excited that it’s coming to our own backyard.
Hope Not Handcuffs is a program that allows addicts to come into police stations, surrender any drugs they may have on them (without legal consequences), and have a rehab angel assist them in getting into a program.
A meeting will be held tonight at the East Flint Church of the Nazarene to discuss the launch of the program here in Genesee and Lapeer Counties. Judges, police officers and other public officials will be on hand to answer questions. They’ll also be looking for donations and rehab angel volunteers.
I’ve been going to this particular FAN (Families Against Narcotics) meetings sporadically for about six months. I’ve got a family member with an opiate addiction, and these meetings have been a huge source of comfort for me. I highly recommend it.
