The government has confirmed it, so here's how you can fix it.

Vizio has agreed to pay $2.2 million in fines. They've been accused of collecting data about personal viewing habits from 11 million smart TV customers, and then selling the data to advertisers without consent.

Wonder if that's why Vizio TVs are so darn cheap?

The Federal Trade Commission has released a statement about it, saying that Vizio has been court to disclose that they are collecting information from customers. Not only were they taking partial screenshots, but they were also keeping track of what DVDs customers were watching.

Here's how to disable Vizio's Smart Interactivity on your TV:

  • Press Menu on your TV remote, select System on the TV.
  • select Reset & Admin, highlight Smart Interactivity
  • Press the right arrow to turn it off
