    On December 11th, 1961 this trio from Motown Records topped the chart for the labels first #1 with "Please Mr. Postman". Hailing from Inkster, Michigan, they began their career with a #1 hit. They would place another nine hits in the top 40, but never reach # 1 again. It was certainlty a surprise that they would clinch Motown's first #1 single!

    They were simply know as The Supremes when their chart dominance began. Of course they would later become Diana Ross & The Supremes. Their first #1 came in August of 1964, almost three years after the Marvelettes.
