GM is set to break ground Monday on a massive new paint shop at its Flint Assembly location. MLive says that Monday’s groundbreaking ceremony will include remarks by GM North America Vice President Gerald Johnson, UAW representatives and Flint area community leaders.

GM spokesman Tom Wickham said construction on the addition – part of a $600 million investment in the plant – is expected to start in the spring and will require approximately one million construction man hours. The new paint shop is expected to have three floors and be just under 600,000 square feet.

Workers at the Flint Assembly plant build heavy duty versions of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. The plant has also begun building light-duty versions of the Silverado, recently named 2014 North American Truck of the Year.
