Genesee County Employees Receiving Unemployment Benefits While Working

WNEM reports that about 50 Genesee County employees have been receiving unemployment benefits even though they were still working. During an audit officials found that the employees have collected $30,000 in benefits and they plan to investigate the case.

Authorities plan to look further in the matter and there could be at least 10 cases of fraud of more than $1,000, according to the sheriff's department. Seven county employees were arrested last month and were suspended from their jobs and have been charged with unemployment compensation.

So how messed up is this situation? They say they are going to investigate to see if this was intentionally done, but don't you think these employees knew what they were doing? You would know something isn't right if you were receiving unemployment while you were getting a pay check. They probably figured they would never get caught.
