If you currently own, or have in the past owned a front-loading washing machine, you may be entitled to some cash. Several class-action lawsuits against numerous manufacturers have recently reached preliminary settlements.

The manufacturers include LG, Whirlpool, Maytag, Kenmore, and other brands may have been manufactured by Whirlpool, but branded otherwise. The affected brands may emit moldy odors.

"The issue started out as mostly online chatter about moldy odors but it turned into multiple class-action law suits involving more than 6 million front-loading washing machines," according to Consumer Reports.

The defect affects about six million washers sold nationwide, and settlements range in value from $35 to $500.

If you purchased an LG washer between 2001 and 2006, you can visit this website to find out if you're eligible to take part in the suit. (Claims must be postmarked by October 10.)

Owners of Whirlpool, Maytag, or Kenmore machines (or machines that may have been manufactured by Whirlpool) should click here to learn more. (Claims must be postmarked by October 11.)
