Flint had a plan to have new parking meters up and collecting by the time we hit "Back to the Bricks" week, but the plan is now on hold. The problem? The city's meter ordinance prohibits the Downtown Development Authority from installing them. Originally the Flint DDA had hoped to have about 200 parking meters in place this summer, but the ordinance that allows them to install the meters and collect the money expired before they could be ordered and installed. The meters probably won't be ready now until November, and officials say there won't be enforcement for special events like "Back to the Bricks" and the "Crim Festival of Races." About 200 parking spaces are targeted for the meters.
