The City of Flint has won a national contest to help spruce up a section with a fresh coat of paint.

Flint is one of the 20 cities across North America selected to receive free paint, supplies and a consultation from a design expert at Benjamin Moore as part of their "Paint What Matters" contest. The company will provide enough supplies to paint the exterior of businesses for two or three city blocks along the University Avenue corridor near downtown.

More than 130 cities competed over a six-week period to be one of the 20 awarded supplies and the consultation. Over 500,000 online votes were cast in total.

The projects are due to begin this summer and continue through early next year.
