Their rate of violent crimes has dropped 15% from 2009 and 2010. Memphis' mayor A C Wharton gives credit to Operation Safe Community which was developed in 2005. In the number 4 spot is New Haven, Connecticut; even being the location of Ivy League Yale University, with a population of 124,856 and 15.8 violent crimes per 1,000 people it is one of the most violent citites on the east cost. The New Haven Police Department is considering placing cameras at the cities most dangerous intersections where a number of shootings happen, which has bumped the cities murders up by double.

3. St. Louis, Missouri

St. Louis, Missouri sits in the number 3 position, although the rate of violet crimes have fell dramatically between 2009 and 2010 with the decrease starting in 2007, it still remains higher in violent crimes that any other of America's cities. No suprise for the number two spot, Detroit, Michigan. Detroit has always made lists relative to crime for many years. Detroit's population is 899,447 with 18.9 violent crimes per 1,000 people and a whopping 310 murders in 2010.
