The Downtown Flint riverfront is getting a major upgrade, but it won't happen overnight. One of the changes that will help improve the Downtown area, is removing the Hamilton Dam. Riverbank Park will also get a makeover.

Genesee County Parks Director Amy McMillan says "This is the single most degraded section of the waterfront - downtown, and this is channelized, so we really want to make it more accessible for people and more safe for people. The fact that four out of the six gates are closed actually raises the risk of flooding because if we had a huge rain event, it would be really difficult for the water to get through."

The project is going to cost $36 Million and is expected to take a couple of years to complete.
