The City of Flint has announced is has reconnected with Detroit water after reaching an agreement with the Detroit Water and Sewerage Dept. for the temporary provision of treated Lake Huron water.

According to a news release from the city, Detroit water will be introduced into the Flint system throughout the evening and it's expected that the thorough replacement from Flint River water to Detroit water will happen after three weeks. It's warned residents may see some discoloration as well as noticing some taste and odor issues during the transition. The water provided by the DWSD will contain corrosion controls to hinder the leaching of lead from old pipes into the water. The City of Flint says they will be adding additional corrosion control agents to further minimize the risk.

The contract calls for 12.5 million gallons of water per day at the cost of $1.1 million per month. Flint will continue to purchase water from Detroit until the completion of the Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline in mid-2016.
