And the team truly lived up to the motto of the day yesterday.

The Flint Firebirds asked game-goers to bring non-perishable food items to a recent game for a free Silver-level ticket to a future game. And yesterday, they took those donations to the North End Soup Kitchen - over 4,000 pounds in donations.

The community outreach director for Catholic Charities said that they serve over 200,000 meals to those who need it most every year, but without donations, they have to buy the food. So when a large amount is donated like this, it helps to not have to spend that money.

And it was more than food that was brought - coats, gloves and hats were also donated.
