What would you and your family do if you were suddenly faced with a housing crisis? The truth is that many people are just one paycheck away from disaster, and without a support system in place, homelessness is a very real reality.

An organization you may not have heard of -- Family Promise of Genesee County -- works to help keep families intact when they face one of the worst periods of their lives.

Families -- not individuals -- now make up over 40% of the nation's homeless population. While traditional shelters separate family members based on gender once children reach the age of 13, Family Promise is dedicated to keeping families together during periods of temporary homelessness.

This Saturday marks Family Promise of Genesee County's fifth annual Winter Gala! It's an evening of great entertainment, dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and new this year is a dessert dash. It starts at 6 pm at the Genesys Banquet Center in Grand Blanc with a complimentary cocktail hour.

FPGC is a non-profit organization, part of the national Family Promise organization.
