A 14-month-old Michigan boy is alive today after nearly drowning the family's pool. The hero that saved the boy is Bear, the family's black Labrador Retriever.

Patricia Drauch said she left her son Stanley only briefly, in order to retrieve a gardening tool, and returned to find the boy missing. After searching frantically, she found the boy in the pool. She told WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids that his eyes were rolled back and his lips were blue.

It was then that she realized that the family pet was under the boy, keeping his head above the water.

"He proved that he's got enough love for the kids, that he's more than just our hunting dog," Drauch told the station.

The boy was taken to the hospital, and later released. Drauch is grateful that the family pet was out, and watching over Stanley.

"I'd always told [Bear] since he was four weeks old that these are your babies, watch out," said Drauch. "If Bear wasn't out, I don't think Stanley would have made it."
