Brandi Meadows says her husband abused her for years, but she didn't have the courage to leave him. Her 14-year-old daughter is behind bars, facing aggravated murder charges for killing her father in their Ohio home. Her mother calls her a hero.

“She is my hero; I wasn’t strong enough to get out and she helped me,” Meadows tells Cleveland's Fox 8. “I am so sorry she had to go through this. She is my hero. She helped me; she helped all of us so we could have a better life.”

Bresha Meadows is accused of shooting her father in the early hours of July 28th. The weapon she allegedly used was her father's gun, the same one family members say he used to threaten the family on numerous occasions.

“Using that gun around the house, to intimidate, everyone in the home was terrified,” said the girl's attorney, Ian Friedman.

He added that Meadows faced many years of abuse from her father, and had witnessed her mother being abused on several occasions.

Bresha Meadows is scheduled to appear in court in late August.
