The future of solar energy is bright for Lapeer these days.

Earlier in the week, DTE Energy took steps to install the first of 200,000 solar panels part of a couple of solar parks in Lapeer. The location of the solar parks are on Demille road, which is one of the largest ones to be on about 150 acres, and the other park will be on Turrill road.

Mayor William Sprague was at the solar park ground breaking and commented that these projects are great for the city and the state.

"We are proud of Lapeer's contribution to bringing more green energy to Michigan and to creating a cleaner environment for our community and for the state."

The solar parks will be able to produce enough power for about 9,000 homes when completed by the end of the year.
