The dog was found dead after being held in cargo facility in Detroit.

Delta is on damage control after an 8-year-old Pomeranian was found dead in its crate.

The dog, named Alejandro, was on a Delta flight from Pheonix to Newark last Wednesday when they stopped for a layover in Detroit. At 6 AM, the dog was checked on and was alive in the cargo facility. Sometime after 8 AM, he was checked on again, and was found dead.

Workers said that the dog had fluid and vomit in his crate.

Delta says that they are conducting a "thorough investigation" and have also offered to have the dog's body reviewed by a veterinarian

Just in case you can't keep them straight, this is Delta's first animal-related death this year. The other three incidents that have made the news were all on United flights.
