Do You Have A Smart Or Gifted Child? There Is A New Group Just For You

When I was in third grade, I was placed in a program for gifted and talented students called 'Challenger.'  (I know, right?!?  Me... talented?!?)  I had to ride a shuttle bus to Doyle Knight Elementary School, as did many other students from both the Durand and Corunna school districts.  That was in the 80s. Today, Doyle Knight has closed and the Challenger program is no more.

Currently, there is no funding in Michigan for gifted education, and there are no gifted programs in Genesee.  The Michigan Association of Gifted Children has a new support group in the area that is set to launch on March 15th at Baker College of Flint.  It's important to provide what is needed for these children as well as their parents and teachers.  This will be the only group in the area that will finally fill the void for people with questions or concerns, and providing information to help guide those students.

As their flyer states, "Parents/teachers of clever, gifted children will learn about these kids who 'know everything', but their grades don't always show it.  They exhibit high emotions, sensitivities or signs of perfectionism."  You can download their flyer by clicking here for more information.
