Diane Sawyer will soon step down as host of ABC's 'World News' program. Sources say the move is "entirely her decision."

"Diane decided that now is the moment to concentrate full time on tackling big issues in new ways,” ABC News chief James Goldston told staffers Wednesday morning in a memo obtained by The New York Daily News.

Weekend anchor David Muir will replace Sawyer on September 2nd.

The network also announced that George Stephanopoulos has been promoted to a newly-created 'Chief Anchor' position for ABC. He'll serve as lead anchor for breaking news and special event coverage.
