The Tigers entered tonight's game with Central Division rival Chicago with a 2-game lead over 2nd-place Cleveland and a 4 and a half game lead over the 3rd-place White Sox.  It was a golden opportunity to open up some distance between Detroit and the teams pursuing the Tigers.  It was an opportunity squandered as the White Sox beat the Tigers 6-3 despite being out-hit by Detroit 12-11.  The American League Central race is now pretty much up for grabs as the Tiger lead is now just a game over Cleveland and 3 and a half over the White Sox.  Tiger starter Duane Below took the loss (his 1st) in his 2nd Major League game, lasting just over 4 innings.

Tomorrow night the Tigers will send their ace, Justin Verlander to the mound to try for his 14th win of the 2011 season.  The White Sox will counter with Jake Peavey, who is 4-4 in an injury-plagued season.  First pitch at 8:10 pm.

The Major League baseball season is 162 games long.  This one could be decided in the very last game.
