If you've ever wanted to own land in central/northern Lower Michigan or in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Michigan DNR has made several parcels available in an auction that is quickly approaching its deadline.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is selling 81 parcels ranging in size from less than an acre to 160 acres. The sealed-bid auction began on Dec. 11. Bids will be accepted through Jan. 9.

The auction is part of the DNR's strategy to manage public lands while maximizing outdoor recreation opportunities. The parcels for sale are isolated from other DNR-managed land which makes them difficult to manage and means they provide limited public recreation benefit. Several of the parcels are forested and have riverside or lake frontage.

The land parcels are located in counties mainly in central/northern Lower Michigan and in the Upper Peninsula. Counties include Alpena, Antrim, Clare, Crawford, Emmet, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Lake, Livingston, Marquette, Menominee, Midland, Newaygo, Oakland, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego, Roscommon and Schoolcraft.
