Beginning with the 2016-2017 school year, students in the Davison school district will adhere to a year-round, or "balanced" school calendar. The school year will be lengthened to about ten months, with three week-long intersession breaks added to the school calendar.

Shortening the summer break to two months is a move designed to address the 'Summer Slide' many students experience with a longer period away from the classroom. Davison will still provide 180 days of education per year, as the new calendar will simply redistribute students' breaks.

Should your school district implement a similar program?

M-Live reports that roughly 60 percent of Davison parents were in favor of the move. Beecher became Genesee County's first school district to adopt a similar calendar in 2013.
