Some parents are not please by a decision made by the Dallas Board of Ed to hire a first year teacher who once posed naked on Playboy’s website.

The teacher in question, Cristy Nicole Deweese, once went by the name Cristy Nicole was Playboy’s “Co-Ed of the Month” back in February of 2011.

So what’s the cause for concern?

Well for one, boys can’t stop thinking about her nude; and probably even worse, looking her up on their cellphones. And for the female students, she’s not, in the opinion of the protesting parents, a good role model.

We don’t know what her teaching abilities are just yet since she’s only a first year teacher.

But don’t you feel, once she’s “gotten her feet wet” so to speak, she should be judged on her teaching abilities and not her extracurricular activities, which, by the way, were not illegal?

A Dallas ISD teacher who had posed nude for Playboy’s website has caused a stir with students and at least one parent, who questioned whether she should be in the classroom.

Cristy Nicole Deweese — who was “Coed of the Month” in February 2011 — is a first-year teacher at Rosie M. Collins Sorrells School of Education and Social Services at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center. The magnet high school serves students in grades nine through 12.

Deweese is 21, teaches Spanish and goes by the name Cristy Nicole in Playboy’s online photos and videos.

The district is aware of the concerns, DISD spokesman Jon Dahlander said Friday. “This is a personnel matter, and it will not be discussed.”

Deweese posed for Playboy before the school district hired her. It was unclear Friday whether that violates ethical standards for DISD or the Texas Education Agency.
Debbie Ratcliffe, a Texas Education Agency spokeswoman, called it “a murky situation.”
“It wasn’t an illegal activity, but it raises the question about whether that action violated the Educators’ Code of Ethics.”

Ratcliffe mentioned an ethics standard that states: “The educator shall be of good moral character and be worthy to instruct or supervise the youth of this state.”
Deweese could not be reached for comment. A Playboy spokeswoman declined to comment.

A parent, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear that her child might face retaliation, is upset Deweese had not been removed from the school by Friday afternoon. She said the situation has become a distraction.

She said students used their cellphones while on campus to view the video and photos, and one of the first online comments from a student was posted five days ago.

“Are her male 16- and 17-year-old students looking at her without picturing her nude?” the parent said. “And for the female students, is this someone they can respect as an educator, someone that they can look up to?”

Several people, calling themselves Deweese’s students, have posted comments on Youtube videos where the teacher gives an interview and poses in lingerie for a photo shoot.
“That’s my Spanish teacher!!!” one comment read.

On Twitter, students talked about Deweese posing for Playboy. Some defended her and said people should leave her alone.

Of course the students would say to leave her alone.

But how many teachers have boys become infatuated with? Probably more than one could count. Conversely, how many teachers, attractive or not, have become infatuated with their male students…or female for that matter; and do you feel there’s the likelihood that a former Playboy model might have a fling with one of her students? To take it to the extreme, should all teachers look like trolls?

Silly, I know.

The bigger question is whether or not she’d make a fine teacher. And for that, only time will tell. She need be, at the very least, be given that chance.
