Mark Brightbill is a fighter. He's fought cancer twice, suffered four mini-strokes, undergone heart surgery and endured a host other medical adversities, all in the hopes of seeing his daughter get married.

Mark's journey began when he was diagnosed with cancer at just 18. After 30 years of remission, the Salina, Kansas man underwent a stem cell transplant when his cancer returned. After undergoing a heart valve transplant, Mark went into respiratory distress, and spent 49 days in intensive care. Doctors say his body had broken down after years of cancer treatments.

“The worst day was having to call the kids and tell them the doctor said, ‘you need to get your kids here,’” his wife Karen Brightbill tells KETV. “That was the day they put him on ECMO.”

But knowing his daughter was counting on him gave Mark strength. Three months after family members were unsure if Mark would survive from one hour to the next, Mark walked his only daughter down the aisle.

"You make a promise to your little girl, you keep it,” said Mark.
