Cyber Monday – Turns Out, It’s All Marketing
True or False: Cyber Monday is the biggest e-commerce day of the year. False. Turns out it was all just marketing, and started five years ago when Shop.org issued this press release, and coined the term.
Cyber Monday has never been the biggest day of the year for online retail sales, said Andrew Lipsman, director of industry analysis at comScore, a company that monitors internet traffic.
Lipsman went on to say that typically a Monday in December is historically the biggest online shopping day of the year, and predicts that December 13th will take the honor in 2010.
Consumers Reports advises shoppers to look for the biggest discounts on big-ticket electronics, like TVs, in the middle of December. Often online retailers' selections on the Monday after Thanksgiving, consist of items that did not move well on Black Friday.
