Anyone who knows us is aware that my family is notorious for using coupons and maximizing discounts. And I sheepishly admit that there have been a few times when a debate with a cashier has escalated into unfriendly territory because of a coupon.

(And it's almost always because the cashier fails to understand the fine print. -- Just sayin'!)

But here's the thing. We've never called 911 because a cashier fails to understand how coupons work. That would be stupid. But it's exactly what happened at a Burger King in Ohio.

A Texas man attempted to use a buy-one-get-one-free coupon (Those of us who coupon call that BOGO.) in order to get two Whoppers.

“I am at the Burger King up on Madison and [West] 117th, and I have two coupons for a free Whopper,” the customer told the 911 dispatcher. "The guy took my coupons and he won’t give them back to me and he won’t give me the free Whopper that they call for either."

(Hear the 911 call here.)

According to police, the coupon was obtained in the man's home state of Texas and was not valid for use in Ohio. He has been advised not to return to that Burger King restaurant.
