College Football Player Injures Self Saving Nephew from Drowning

Even though he's going to miss some games, this college football player is being hailed as a hero!

University of Southern California cornerback Joshua Shaw will most likely miss this weekend's season opener, but in the eyes of his coach and others, that's OK.

Shaw sprained both of his ankles jumping from a second-story balcony on Saturday night to save his 7-year-old from drowning. Fox News says Shaw was attending a family party at an apartment complex, and at one point, saw his nephew Carter, who cannot swim, struggling in the complex's pool. With no one else nearby, Shaw jumped off the balcony onto the concrete below. Despite hurting both ankles, Shaw was able to crawl into the pool and pull his nephew to safety! Shaw was later taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with two high ankle sprains that will sideline him indefinitely.

Shaw, who had just earlier in the day been named a team captain, said he "would do it again for whatever kid it was, it did not have to be my nephew." His coach, Steve Sarkisian, said it "was a heroic act by Josh, putting his personal safety aside. But that's the kind of person he is."
