The district announced last night that it will be privatizing its bus drivers, but those who have been let go can apply with the new company.

The decision was announced last night at a board meeting, where several drivers walked out after the announcement.

Superintendent Fletcher Spears III says that it's a cost-cutting measure, because the buses are expensive to keep. He also says that the other half of the drivers will keep their jobs because of their tenure with the district.

Drivers said that they were expecting the decision, but thought that they might be able to persuade the board to make a different decision.
