How many cities own public golf courses? How many own four? Count the City of Flint for both! And now, the city wants out of the golf course business before they have to close the final two public courses. Two are already shuttered. The city is working on a plan that would hopefully keep all four open. The city hopes to privatize, and do it without straining the city's budget. Three organizations have already submitted bids to run the golf courses and the city is considering a lease for at least three of them.Flint's AFSCME Local 1799 is being recommended to run two courses, Kearsley Lake and Swartz Creek. Mott Park could be run by a neighborhood non-profit group that is forming. A group called City Golf Solution is being recommended to operate Pierce Park.
