University of Michigan graduate Mike Wallace is remembered by his son Chris Wallace as his 'best friend'.

The host of 'Fox News Sunday' remembered his dad fondly, and said Wallace was surrounded by loved ones when he died Saturday, and in the last years of his life became his best friend.

“My Dad was everything you saw on television: fascinating and funny, challenging and exasperating." The younger Wallace also labeled his father "The best reporter I've ever known."

Mike Wallace has Michigan roots, graduating in 1939 from the University Michigan. His first broadcasting job was as a newscaster for WOOD radio in Grand Rapids.

Oh, how times have changed! Watch below as Wallace pitches Phillip Morris cigarettes, before such advertising was banned in 1971.

Before his four decades with '60 Minutes' Wallace hosted a game show called 'The Big Surprise'.
