A Stop At Michigan’s Mystery Spot

Before my son and I left for our venture to Northern Michigan, my dad told me about a place he took me to when I was a child called Mystery Spot in St. Ignace.  I have no recollection of this mysterious location, so Ben and I decided to check it out.

I know a lot about illusions, magic, smoke and mirrors, so I was convinced it would be a sham.  However, I'm still wondering what we saw and how it was possible.

Fall Inspires Father/Son Vacation To Michigan’s Mackinaw Village

A few weeks ago, my son, Ben, and I had planned a trip to visit with my grandmother.  She moved in with my aunt and uncle just outside of Washington D.C. about ten years ago, making it much more difficult to spend time with her.

Just days before our departure, our plans fell through and the trip was off.  My son and I had both been really looking forward to a road trip with each other.  A last minute change of plans landed us in Mackinaw Village.

Dog Meets Skunk-What To Do?

My two year old Golden Retriever, Sammi, met a skunk face-to-face for the first time this morning and, you guessed it, she got sprayed. So what to do first? If this should happen to your pet, you need to be prepared to act quickly to minimize the smell.

Time is of the essence if you don't want your dog and your home to reek of skunk perfume for a long time. There is a solution that will greatly reduce the smell and make your life at least tolerable until it wears off. If you have pets and they roam outdoors, make sure that you have a quart of hydrogen peroxide, some Dawn Dish Soap, and some baking soda on hand. Here's the plan for "de-skunking" your pet (or yourself).

Cars 108 Garden Harvest Time

It's been a good year for the Cars 108 garden. Almost everything we planted produced prolifically. Between my garden at home and the one at the radio station, I had enough tomoatoes to can for soups and chili and plenty to give to friends and co-workers. The potatoes did very well, as I dug up a 5-gallon bucketful of spuds. The sweet potatoes were the only disappointment as they didn't get very large. I still plan to throw a couple of them on the grill and see how they taste before calling them a failure.

Fun At The Zoo… I’m Not Lion!

This Labor Day was a bit on the chilly side, but it was perfect for a visit to Potter Park Zoo in Lansing.

After riding camels and petting goats, we found ourselves in the presence of the king of beasts.  Not only did this huge Lion catch my eye, but I caught his as well.

International Space Station In View Tonight

Tonight you get not one, but two chances to see the International Space Station orbit overhead. The best time to watch the skies tonight is about 9:20pm. Look in the lower portion of the west-northwest sky. It should appear there about 9:22. It will be at it's highest peak in the north-northwest at 9:26pm, then move lower and fade about 9:29. The space station will look like a very bright dot, slowly moving across the sky, much brighter than than any of the stars.
