Firearm deer hunting season starts next Tuesday, November 15th in Michigan. Hundreds of thousands of hunters will take to the woods hoping to bag a trophy buck or to at least put some meat in their freezer. Watch As 12-Story Dam Gets Blown Up So Salmon Can Have A Home [VIDEO]

This is something you don't get to see every day. After a huge explosion, a dam which helped power 7,000 homes for almost 100 years was partially destroyed - so that salmon can swim freely down a river. Demolition crews detonated explosives in a drain tunnel at the base of the 12-story hydro-power Condit Dam, on the White salmon River in the Pacific Northwest, that's in the state of Washington.

Get a look at the explosion after the jump.

When was the last time you went kayaking and bumped into a Blue Whale? Me too, never. The man in the kayak did what anyone else would do in that situation, jump into the water and film it. The Northern Lights -- also know as, aurora borealis -- made a rare appearance last night (October 24th,) reaching as far south as Georgia. The reason the lights made their appearance so far south was due to the solar wind that reached much farther south than usual.

Check out the videos from around the United State and Canada to see the amazing light show.

The skies over Lubbock, Texas turned red earlier this week as a huge dust cloud overtook the city.  It was a beautiful day with clear, blue skies as the ominous cloud approached.

Fall Family Traditions At Mid-Michigan Apple Orchards [PHOTOS]

For the first time in several years, I had the pleasure of enjoying a family trip to the apple orchard and cider mill this past week.  I had almost forgotten how the taste buds dance to the  taste of a freshly-made, still warm cinnamon donut with freshly milled cider on the side.

After Ben's trip to Mackinac Village a few weeks ago, I wanted to take my other two kids on a special trip.  Hayli, Parker and I met up with my sister, Nikki, and niece, Phoenix, for a day at the apple orchard while Ben was in school.

A Fall Trip To The Mackinac Bridge [PHOTOS]

As I wrap up my vacation blogging, I saved the best for last. Michigan is home to so many cool places, festivals and landmarks. But, in my opinion, what tops the list is the majestic Mackinac Bridge.

Typically on family vacations, my wife handles the picture taking.  In her absence, I took on the task, and apparently overdid it.  My son, Ben, asked why I needed so many pictures of "Big Mac."  I didn't really have an answer at the time, but now I realize it is so I can share them with you.  Enjoy!

The View From Castle Rock [PHOTOS]

Last week, I started a series of articles about a trip my son and I took up north last weekend.  Today, we continue with a stop at Castle Rock in St. Ignace.

This rock, at least five stories up, provides an incredible view of the Straits of Mackinac.  Castle Rock is also home to Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, Babe.

Check out photos from atop the rock after the jump.
