Bills Would Raise Age For Kindergarten Start In Michigan [POLL]

Backers of a later starting age for kindergarten in Michigan say it would bring the state in line with most of the country and reflects the more academic focus of early education in our time. The Michigan Senate unanimously passed legislation May 3 that would move up the date by which a child needs to turn 5 in order to enter kindergarten to Sept. 1 from Dec. 1.

Michigan is just one of just a few states with such a late cutoff date. Sen. Darwin Booher says research shows delaying kindergarten by as few as three months leads to significantly improved test scores.

Do you think it's a good idea? Take our people poll after the jump.

Two Year Old Joins Mensa

I always thought my kids were smart, maybe even a genius. But even if they were, I doubt I would have applied for membership to Mensa for them. Mensa requires an IQ of at least 140 for acceptance, but the  parents of two-year-old Anthony Popa Urria have the Mensa membership that shows their two year-old son is now a member of that elite group.

Even though he is technically a toddler and still wears diapers, Anthony has been admitted into the high IQ-society on the strength of his 154 IQ. That score is just a little less than the score of Albert Einstein.

Should Kids Get Cash For Good Grades? [Video/Poll]

I was watching this segment on the "Today Show" the other day and a professor was talking about paying kids for good grades. He gave the example of someone running a school where kids come from tough backgrounds and they aren't reading or motivated.

He said let's say administrators decided to give cash incentives for good grades. The idea was to pay $2 every time a child read a book and he used third graders as an example. Is this is a good idea? Should schools pay kids for good grades? Check out the video and take the poll after the jump.
