If you're expecting a baby, especially if it's your first, Genesys is offering a free Infant Safety class which is designed to help new parents keep their newborn safe from harm and safe from injury after birth. The next class will be offered on Tuesday, January 31st from 6-8 pm. Upcoming classes will be offered every month.

January 17, 2012 It has certainly been an emotional few weeks to say the least for Flushing High School students and parents. First came the death of 17-year old Brian Spangler in December because of a freak shooting accident. Then over the weekend the death of Jarrod Nickell from an apparent suicide.
According to family Jarrod was a victim of bullying at school. One if Jarrod's fellow students has taken a stand by putting out a 'stop bullying' video on YouTube . The video is a cry for help.

A law is trying to get passed in California, to make it okay for students to try out for sports according to their "gender identity" instead of their "biological sex." This means that if a boy thinks he's a female, then he can try out for a girls' sports team and vice versa, according to CBS Los Angeles.
January 9, 2012 Sydney Spies is a senior at Durango High School in Colorado. I guess you could say Sydney got more creative in sort of a non-conventional way with her senior pictures. School officials say that she is dressed like a pole dancer in the photo.

January 6, 2012 I wonder if this happens very often? I've always said that it takes a special kind of person to be a teacher. A person born with an extra amount of patience. That brings us to this story of a high school teacher in Philadelphia. I don't believe he realized that just about every cell phone today has video capability, and that just about every student has a cell phone.

Saturday, December 17th the Sloan Museum and Buick Automotive Gallery will offer free admission from 12-5 pm. This great Saturday freebie is a result of a generous gift from GM Flint Manufacturing Operations and UAW Local 598. Visitors to the Sloan will have access to all the displays, including "Robots: The Interactive Exhibition." Also Carman Ainsworth's Robotics team will provide some added entertainment.
A school in Rock Hill, South Carolina has started handing out belts to kids who show up to school with their pants too low. They used to get written up, but now they have the option of wearing the belt or getting in trouble. The principal thinks this will prevent kids from showing up in baggy pants.
December 8, 2011 I get the whole you shouldn't be fighting while going to school thing. But, being expelled because I was just watching? I must admit that in high school when a fight broke out you could have sold tickets. Everybody stood around and watched but they were not expelled. This happened at Dean College in Massachusetts.

December 7, 2011 An elementary school teacher at Traverse City's Cherry Knoll Elementary gets a failing grade. Tired of students snickering at the word "gay" in "Deck The Halls," the teacher changed the lyrics to "don we now our 'bright' apparel."
In the video below, the school's principal says the teacher should have used the situation to teach that there are two meanings for the word "gay."
A 13-year-old HIV positive boy in Pennsylvania has been denied enrollment because of his health status, so his family is suing the Milton Hershey School for discrimination, according to Yahoo. The school says they can't meet the boy's needs. The lawsuit seeks immediate admission, compensatory damages and mandatory HIV/AIDS sensitivity training.
December 6, 2011 Governor Rick Snyder is signing anti-bullying legislation in to law today. It will require all public schools in the state to adopt a uniform policy by June of 2012.
