Burton Police, Firefighters Take Kids Christmas Shopping

The looks on the kids' faces say it all, doesn't it?

Shop with a Hero is an event that partners local police and firefighters with disadvantaged kids in their area to take them shopping - kids who may not otherwise receive anything for Christmas.

ELGA Credit Union got together with Meijer to put this event on in our area. On Monday night, police officers and firefighters from Burton took the kids out to dinner and then took them on a shopping spree at Meijer. They even got to meet Santa and win prizes!

Aside from this great story from our own community, I wanted to share this, too - the young man in these pictures with the amazing 'stache is Ryan. I used to babysit him when I was a teenager. Not only did he just get married, but he's also a police officer for the city of West Allis, Wisconsin, where they hosted their own "Shop with a Cop" event recently. Couldn't be more proud of this wonderful guy! And to think that he'd try to get away with NOT brushing his teeth when he was a kid ;)
