Burton Firefighter Dies After Car Accident in Oakland County

Thinking of the family and friends of former Burton firefighter Joshua Cervantes today.

Cervantes suffered from fatal injuries after an accident at approximately 5:15 a.m. Wednesday on Hadley Road in Brandon Township.

Assistant Fire Chief Kirk Wilkinson said that Cervantes joined the department last year and resigned recently for personal reasons. Wilkinson released the following statement:

"On September 26, 2018 at approximately 05:18 hours in the morning, former Probationary Firefighter Joshua Cervantes who was assigned to Burton Station #1 was fatally injured in an automobile accident on Hadley Rd. in Oakland County’s Brandon Twp. Josh served the City of Burton Fire Department from July 3, 2017 to September 17, 2018. Josh had resigned from the department for personal reasons. Josh was a hard worker who got along with everyone at his station and was well liked. Josh was also a husband and a father. At this time I do not have any information regarding the accident or funeral arrangements."

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
